Scholarship Terms and Conditions


Definitions:

In these Scholarship Terms and Conditions, “Program Sponsors” means The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank) and yconic (parent company of StudentAwards)

Name of Scholarship: Scotiabank National Scholarship

Number of Scholarships Available: Twelve (12)

Value of Scholarships:

There is $30,000 available in Scholarships. Scholarships are valued at $2,500 CAD each.

Each Scholarship will be paid to the selected recipient upon the Program Sponsors’ receipt of valid proof of eligibility.


Eligibility:

In order to be awarded a Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  2. The applicant must be at least 16 years old at the time of application;
    • The applicant must be a high school or CEGEP student planning to enroll full-time in a certificate, diploma or degree program in the 2015/2016 or 2016/2017 academic year at a Canadian college, university or trade school
      OR
      Be a post-secondary student enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a certificate, diploma or degree program in the 2014/2015 or 2015/2016 academic year at a Canadian college, university or trade school
    • If the applicant has a physical, sensory or mental impairment or disability that restricts his/her ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate fully in post-secondary learning, the applicant must be planning to enroll or continue to be enrolled in a certificate, diploma or degree program of part-time study at a Canadian post-secondary educational institution in the 2015/2016 or 2016/2017 academic year.
  3. Individuals associated with the Scotiabank National Scholarship, including employees of yconic, Scotiabank, their subsidiaries and affiliated companies, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, promotional and marketing agencies, and any member of the immediate families of any of the foregoing and other individuals with whom any of the foregoing are domiciled, are not eligible to participate in the Scotiabank National Scholarship.

How to Apply:

Applications are available at www.fundyourfuture.ca/nationalscholarship. Applications must be completed and submitted online between September 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. EST and November 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Applications may be submitted in English or French. All applications become the property of the Program Sponsors.


Scholarship Application Evaluation Criteria:

All qualifying applications will be evaluated by a judging panel comprised of educators, community leaders and Program Sponsor representatives. The following criteria will be used for evaluation:

  • Creativity/originality
  • Clarity of thought and communication of content
  • Grammar and spelling
  • Overall content

All final decisions will be made by the Program Sponsors.

The Program Sponsors or their designate(s) will select the twelve (12) applications that best meet the criteria set out above, in the sole discretion of the Program Sponsors or their designate(s), subject to the limit of one (1) scholarship per applicant.

By phone and/or email, yconic will notify selected applicants that they have been selected to receive a scholarship. Each selected applicant must submit to yconic, within the time specified by yconic, the following:

  1. A Declaration of Compliance, Publicity and Liability Release signed by the applicant (or the applicant’s parent or legal guardian, if the applicant is a minor) that provides, among other things, (i) that the applicant certifies that he/she meets the eligibility criteria and has complied with all requirements set out above, and (ii) that the applicant consents, without further compensation, to the Program Sponsors’ use of the applicant’s name, city, province or territory of residence, application submission and photograph in any publicity relating to the Scholarship.
  2. Proof, acceptable to yconic, of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
  3. Proof of age, acceptable to yconic.
  4. For high school and CEGEP students, proof, acceptable to yconic, of full-time enrollment in a certificate, diploma or degree program of study at a Canadian college, university or trade school in the 2015/2016 or 2016/2017 academic year (if applicable), or in a program of part-time study with a physician’s written confirmation of impairment or disability as described above.

    For post-secondary students, proof, acceptable to yconic, of full-time enrollment in a certificate, diploma or degree program of study at a Canadian college, university or trade school in the 2014/2015 or 2015/2016 academic year (if applicable), or in a program of part-time study with a physician’s written confirmation of impairment or disability as described above.

    The selected applicant must return all such forms/documentation to yconic within ten (10) days of receipt of the forms by the selected applicant. Forms/documentation (where applicable) may be submitted by:

Failure to submit the documents described above within the required time may result in disqualification of the applicant.


Other Terms and Conditions:

By submitting an application, the applicant:

  1. Certifies that the information provided in the application and in any other documents provided in connection with the application is true, accurate and complete, to the best of his/her knowledge.
  2. Authorizes third parties, such as educational institutions and other sources provided by the applicant, to release information (including personal evaluations) to the Program Sponsors to confirm the information submitted by the applicant in connection with the application.
  3. Consents to the collection, storage and confirmation of the personal information submitted in connection with the application and its use as required in the administration of the Scholarship and otherwise as described in these Terms and Conditions, the yconic (parent company of StudentAwards) Privacy Policy (www.fundyourfuture.ca/privacy.aspx) and the Scotiabank Privacy Policy (www.scotiabank.com/ca/en/0,,351,00.html).
  4. Authorizes the Program Sponsors to disclose any information provided by the applicant in connection with or relating to his/her application to their respective representatives who need to know such information to administer and promote the Scholarship, provided that such information is used only for such purpose. If available, by specifically checking an additional Program Sponsors information check-box on the application form, the applicant consents to the Program Sponsors using the personal information submitted with the application including, but not limited to, contacting the applicant in the future to provide electronic newsletters and mailings, and other promotions and product and/or service offerings of the Program Sponsors.
  5. Agrees that the Program Sponsors may aggregate information submitted by the applicant with information submitted by other applicants, and use such aggregated information in anonymous form for reporting, statistical, publicity and promotional purposes.
  6. Agrees that the Program Sponsors may modify, amend or cancel the Scholarship at any time and in their sole discretion, without individual notice.
  7. Agrees to have met all the eligibility requirements of the Scholarship. If eligibility requirements are unmet or false information has been provided then the applicant will be ineligible for the Scholarship.
  8. Agrees to be bound by the decisions of the Program Sponsors, which shall be final and binding for all purposes.
