Apply for student credit

It’s fast. It’s easy. It gets you money for school.

Apply for a ScotiaLine® personal line of credit for students to get money to help fund your post-secondary education. When you apply and are approved for a ScotiaLine® personal line of credit for students you are automatically eligible to win a $1,000 CDN cash bursary.

Once your application is approved, your name will be submitted into the monthly bursary draws for the rest of the year! So get going - the sooner you’re approved, the more chances you have to win! See our Rules & Regulations for entry details.

Steps to apply:

What you get:

No cost if there is no balance on your line of credit

Great way to establish a credit record by making regular payments

Credit limits starting from as low as $1,000 to a lifetime maximum of $50,000

Funding is provided on an annual basis, to a maximum of $10,000 per academic year for full-time students

Optional VISA card for incidental fees. You can apply at the same time for a Scotia Momentum® No-Fee VISA® Card2 with an up to 1% cash back reward on all eligible gas station, grocery store, drug store purchases and recurring payments with $1,000, $2,000 or $3,000 limits, in addition to your ScotiaLine® personal line of credit for students total credit limit.

Optional Credit Protection for your credit solution

How it works:

When you qualify for a ScotiaLine® personal line of credit for students, both you and your parents share the responsibility for making interest payments while you’re in school, and for paying back the principal 12 months after graduation.

Your role is that of a co-borrower. You build up valuable credit history that will help you get credit in the future. Although you share responsibility, only your parent, guardian or spouse serves as the primary borrower on the line of credit for students, and therefore has the ability to authorize credit limit increases.

When you apply and are approved for a ScotiaLine® personal line of credit for students you are automatically eligible to win a $1,000 CDN cash bursary.

You can apply anytime you want – it’s no longer something that you only do at the beginning of the school year or at the start of a new semester.

Apply early! Once your application is approved, your name will be submitted into the monthly bursary draws for the rest of the year!

Notes:

1Rates are subject to approval upon submission of a credit application. Prime means the Prime Lending Rate of The Bank of Nova Scotia. As of September 9, 2010 the Prime Rate is 3.00%. See all the latest rates for all our products.

2You will earn 1% cash back on your annual spend on gas station, grocery store and drug store purchases and on recurring payments. 1% cash back applies at merchants which are classified in the Visa Inc. (VISA) network as Grocery Stores & Supermarkets, Drug Stores & Pharmacies, Service Stations (with or without ancillary services), Automated Fuel Dispensers and Recurring Payments (Merchant Codes: 5411, 5541, 5542 & 5912). Recurring payments are defined as payments made on a monthly or regular basis automatically billed by the merchant to your Scotia Momentum® No-Fee VISA* card. Recurring payments are typically telecommunication, insurance, membership, subscriptions etc. purchases. Not all merchants offer recurring payments. (Please check with your merchant to see if they offer recurring payments on VISA cards.) Some merchants may sell these products/services or are separate merchants who are located on the premises of these merchants, but are classified by VISA in another manner, in which case this added benefit would not apply. You will earn 0.5% cash back on all other eligible purchases made with the card. Purchase returns, payments, cash advances, balance transfers, Scotia® VISA Cheques, credit vouchers, card fees, interest charges or service/transaction charges do not qualify for cash back.
